I Want to Give You a
Beautiful Future
Alan
was an orphan frog whose parents died when he was very young. He grew up
himself by trying to cultivate himself as human beings. Five hundred years
past, he succeeded but the power was very low and sometimes he may change frog
back. Also he could not eat frogs as meals or he would totally change back. But
eating frogs was a common thing in this country. In order not to be found his
strange characteristics, he worked in a small tailor store as a tailor
assistant; however, he did not complain about his fate. Instead, he was very
optimistic and positive. The only thing he hated very much was separation. Once
a time, his partner died and he was sad for many years. His parents left a pair
of ancestral gemstone rings for him and his future wife. He also changed them
into human rings. Once they were put on, they could not be removed if the
couple loved each other. His ring had been put on his finger and he kept the
other one very carefully. If these two rings were put together, they would
shine and become true gemstones; if the two rings separated, they were just
stones. His dream was to be a clothes designer and make really beautiful clothes. His
ultimate goal was to design princess’ fashion clothes to show her beauty and
dignity. Now, he was old enough to get married.
One day, when he helped the tailor to cut
the cloth, there was a grand parade on the street. It was because the princess
came of age that she needed to be looked at by general people with reverence. The
occasion was very important and every one fell on knees to show their respect
and cheer for their beautiful princess, not including Alan. He was totally
attracted by this beautiful princess. He was dull and he fell on knees until
the soldier beat him. After the fleeting glimpse of her, Alan missed her so
much that he even did not have the appetite to eat well. Moved by his
infatuation, his partner frog, who was cultivating himself, decided to bring
the princess in front of Alan; however, because the magic was low, the meeting
could only last 7 days and the princess would forget what she experienced
during the seven days. For Alan, he was so sad about the fact but he also knew seeing
the princess again, he was already a lucky guy.
Alan met the princess and the princess
was attracted immediately by his handsome appearance and charming smile. Seeing
Alan’s hard work and talents for designing clothes, the princess fell in love
with Alan deeply. Every day, Alan drew new clothes pictures for the princess
and then they talked a lot about themselves. The princess knew Alan’s pitiful
childhood experience and Alan learned that the princess also felt lonely
sometimes. Alan dared not to tell the princess he was a frog actually and the
princess was quite confused why Alan did not eat frogs since eating frogs was a
common thing in this country. After seven days, they loved each other deeply.
Before the magic was invalid, Alan put ring on the princess’s finger without
saying a word. The rings shone in an instant and then she disappeared. He just
found he cannot accept separation at all, which was like a knife scraping in
his heart and he was upset for many days. But he could not go to the palace to
find the princess since he was poor and he thought the princess deserved a
better one. He immersed himself in sadness while the princess felt lost at the
same time. Although she had no memory, she dreamt about a handsome man and nice
clothes pictures every night. She was also curious about the ring on her hand.
Why couldn’t she remove the stone ring? Intertwined with dreams and curiosity,
she asked the soldiers to look for the ring’s owner. Several months later, the
princess found sorrowful Alan in a tailor store and she recognized him right
now. They hugged each other tightly and swore that they would not separate.
Staying together with the princess gave
Alan inspiration and chances to design princess’s clothes. He was very happy he
was closer to his final goal and the most important thing was that he lived
with his lover. He could not believe the life he lived now. They often hung
out, such as going to the field to watch flowers, capturing the butterflies and
breathing the fresh air. Sometimes they flew kites and chased each other
happily. Other times they climbed the mountains and watched sea. Since the
princess knew how to ride a horse, she taught Alan how to ride it. Until now he
knew the princess was not a delicate girl. Alan spoiled the princess very much
though he had no power or money but love; the princess protected Alan very much
within her power. When the princess went to other countries, Alan would worry
about his princess if she ate her fill even though he knew there were many
servants around the princess. The princess also cared for Alan if he stayed up
too late for designing clothes. They never stopped worrying about each other.
For them, one day apart seemed like thousands of years, which showed that they
missed each other very much. However, one day, Alan left.
The princess brought Alan to her mother. Her
mother was a person who despised the poor and curried favor with the rich. In
her heart, Alan was not worth her daughter at all. Alan was only a poor guy who
wanted to marry above his status. When the princess was not at home, her mother
would scold Alan and she even appointed other servants to bully Alan. Alan was
tolerant of abuse from the Queen for the sake of the princess. The Queen knew
from servants that Alan never ate frogs and the Queen was quite curious. So one
day she brought frog meat to visit Alan and cheated him that it was just pork. Alan
ate it and immediately he became frog again. The Queen was scared to death
right now.
Alan
did not want the princess to know what happened, so he left secretly leaving a
letter to the princess. He said he would come back when he succeeded in his
business and became a successful designer. He was sad that he broke his promise
and separated with the princess. Alan said he would take responsibility for the
princess but the princess needed to wait for some time. He hated separation so
much while he was determined to strive for their future and did something good for
her. Love for the princess overcame everything. He was afraid that if the
princess knew what happened, she would hate him. In fact, he did not want to
destroy the image of himself in the princess’s heart. He did not want the
princess to know that it was him who caused her mother’s death.
Several
years later, a parade to celebrate the return of a famous designer marched on
the street. Music of Suona, sheng, bass drum and other folk instruments mixed
together to show Alan’s excitement. He can finally marry his girl. In fact, he
made a deal with an evil witch. He gave her his handsome appearance and voice
so that she helped him become human designer. But if the princess did not love
him anymore, he would become air and his talents for designing would belong to
the witch. He strongly believed that his girl was waiting for him. He was so
confident. People on the street were talking about the man. “Who is that young
man?” “He is quite ugly.” “He looks familiar to someone I know.” “I remember,
he was once the lover of our princess!” “He comes back for the princess?” “But
our princess is going to marry another prince!! They match each other. The
prince can design beautiful clothes for the princess.” “He’s quite handsome, not
like this ugly guy.” “That prince is very kind. It was him who comforted the
princess when she lost her mother.”
At
the same time, another grand parade was marching towards Alan. It was the
wedding between the princess and prince from another country. They hugged each
other tightly on the carriage to show their love. It seemed that the princess
did not love Alan anymore and the ring was not on the princess’s finger. She
was happy living with the prince now. Alan was heartbroken. He cannot believe
what he saw now. The witch once told him that if he killed the princess, he
could live. But even the princess betrayed him; he could not kill her since he
loved her so much. Suddenly, he ran towards the princess quickly and pushed the
princess over. Many soldiers hurled lances at him regarding the ugly guy as the
assassin; there were two knives on his breast as well. One was from the
frightened princess while another was from the real assassin who wanted to hurt
the princess. He wanted to say something to the princess but he failed. The
only thing he could do was to gaze at her fondly. He became transparent
gradually; however, the prince held the princess with both arms towards the
palace slowly without a glance.
I love this story.
